The Keeper and Your Health

Your Health and Traditional Feminine Products
• Studies conducted by the sanitary product industry have found
that tampons contain trace amounts of dioxin; a chemical deemed a
probable carcinogen by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).
Vegetarian Times 1998
• Dioxin is from the bleach used to bleach tampons, and has been
linked to endometriosis and cancer in the female reproductive system, birth
defects, and damaged organs
• Among infertile women, 30%-45% have endometriosis
• Cotton used to make tampons is grown with toxic pesticides. Your
body absorbs these toxins
• FDA does not require tampon and pad manufacturers to list the
ingredients used in tampons
• Tampons can cause toxic shock
• Pads track E.coli and cause bladder infections
• Feminine hygiene products are not sterilized
• In early 1989, British women launched a publicity campaign to halt
the use of the environmentally hazardous chlorine gas bleaching process
used in the manufacture of diapers and feminine products. Result: After 6
months, the women won, and this hazardous process was no longer used.
Documented by Liz Armstrong and Adrienne Scott in their book,
Whitewash:
• Congresswoman Carolyn Maloney from New York points out that
there has been far more testing on the possible health effects of chlorine-
bleached coffee filters than on chlorine-bleached tampons and related
products.
